3rd propulsion system cruise ship not working. No Princess ship has an azipod propulsion system. Power requirements for ferries and cruise ships vary widely depending on whether the ship is at berth or underway. At no time did the ship lose power and the ships propulsion systems and primary power sources were not impacted.
However for a period of time last night there were interruptions to the elevators and restroom services. When the ships generators are running they provide a supply not only to the propulsion motors but also to the batteries charging them. Sometimes low in the ship to avoid noise and sometimes high enabling access for maintenance and replacement.
Toilets and elevators are currently working. A lot of space is saved by the Azipod cruise ship propulsion system in the engine room - there is no propeller engine shafting or other arrangements. Currently almost 23 of all large-sized cruise vessels icebreaking ships and high ice-class cargo ships are with Azipod propulsion.
